First Peoples twilight series — Presented in partnership with the Judicial Officers’ Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Committee (JOACAC), this series will enhance your awareness of issues affecting First Peoples before the courts.
Back by popular demand, this year’s annual film screening will feature The New Boy, written and directed by celebrated Australian filmmaker and Kaytetye man Warwick Thornton. This 2023 feature film centres around an Aboriginal boy in the 1940s who is taken to a remote mission run by a renegade nun (played by Cate Blanchett) assisted by Sister Mum (played by Deborah Mailman). At its heart, this is a tale of survival. The screening will be followed by a discussion exploring the film’s themes with key First Peoples speakers.
