An opportunity for new VCAT members to come together and learn about their role.

Developed specifically for recently appointed VCAT members, this event includes both theory and practical skills on:  

  • preventing sexual harassment, including bystander training 

  • the ethical dimensions of the role  

  • how to exercise authority in the hearing room  

  • communicating effectively in the hearing room.

Supreme Court of Victoria
Justice Ted Woodward
Justice Ted Woodward is a judge of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria and President of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Before being appointed to the Supreme Court, His Honour was a Judge in the Commercial Division of the County Court from 2017 to 2023. During his time at the County Court, His Honour was Judge in Charge of the Building Cases List and, from June 2020, the Head of the Commercial Division. In that role, he headed up the development of new case management and dispute resolution practices in the Division. Justice Woodward joined the Victorian Bar in 1997, taking silk in 2010. During his time at the Bar, His Honour practised primarily in commercial and corporations matters (particularly in corporate insolvency) and was involved in a number of bushfire and anti-corruption enquiries. He also served on the Victorian Bar Council and Bar Ethics Committee. Before joining the Bar, Justice Woodward practised as a solicitor at Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks (now Allens Linklaters) for 13 years, five of those as a partner, practising primarily in commercial litigations and insolvency.

The Hon Murray Kellam AO
Justice Murray Kellam practised as a Barrister and was appointed Queens Counsel in 1991 before being appointed as a Judge of County Court of Victoria in 1993. He was then elevated to the Supreme Court in 1997 and appointed to the Court of Appeal in 2007. In 2005, Justice Kellam was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia ‘for service to the law through a range of judicial and legal training roles in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, and to the community, particularly through support for ...disadvantaged people in Thailand and Melbourne.’ His Honour was Chief Commissioner of Integrity Commission Tasmania from 2010 to 2015, and appointed Acting Justice of Supreme Court of the ACT from 2017-2019.

Erica Edmands
A Partner at En Masse, Erica is an experienced senior HR & legal practitioner, workplace investigator, and facilitator in the private and public sector, with a particular focus on inclusion, diversity, and gender equity. With a deep understanding of the drivers of gender inequity, Erica has designed and delivered strategic, sustainable interventions on the prevention of workplace behavioural issues, gender equity, bias, sexual harassment, and domestic and family violence. Erica is particularly experienced in managing complex and sensitive investigations for Boards, CEO's and senior executives. A Graduate of the AICD, and current Board Chair and Non-Executive Director, she understands the broader commercial, strategic and people issues required to embed organisational change. More broadly, Erica has extensive experience in conducting cultural reviews, Public Sector misconduct and Whistleblower investigations (including IBAC and protected disclosure matters) and developing GEAPs. Erica holds a current legal practicing certificate and is a nationally accredited mediator.

Stuart Kay
Stuart is an Executive Consultant for En Masse with extensive experience spanning a variety sectors and stakeholders including private legal practice, the judiciary, education and government, in both Australia and the US. A senior qualified lawyer, Stuart develops high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring and implementing diversity and inclusion programs. Having served in organisational leadership roles for many years, Stuart is familiar with the pressures on leaders. Stuart has a deep understanding of the drivers of behaviour and workplace culture, and brings empathy, emotional intelligence and a wealth of lived experience to his work.

Simon Wood
