The Victorian Law Reform Commission (VLRC) has released its report titled "Inclusive Juries," recommending changes to remove barriers that prevent individuals with hearing or vision impairments from serving on juries.

The report suggests amendments to the Juries Act, providing accommodations such as interpreters and screen readers. The "13th person rule" could also be revised to allow interpreters in the jury room, provided they maintain confidentiality.

Chair of the VLRC the Hon. Tony North KC said:

"Jury duty is an important civic duty, and people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision should be able to participate like everyone else. This reform will make juries more representative."
