Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are evolving rapidly and becoming increasingly prevalent.
The Victorian Law Reform Commission (VLRC) has been tasked with providing recommendations on law reform and principles to guide the safe use of AI in Victoria's courts and tribunals.
As part of the Artificial Intelligence in Victoria’s Courts and Tribunals project, the VLRC has published a consultation paper. This paper explores the benefits and risks of AI, its potential applications in courts and tribunals, and possible approaches to regulation. Key considerations include maintaining public trust, ensuring fairness, and balancing opportunities with risks related to accountability, privacy, and transparency.
The VLRC is scheduled to deliver its report to the Attorney-General by 31 October 2025.
