Introducing our new judgment writing resources.

Judgment writing
The College has launched a brand-new judgment writing resource page, including a new College Judgment writing guide.

Bringing together principles from a variety of authoritative sources, this unique guide is invaluable for its brevity and for drawing on the wisdom of judicial teachers. It includes a section on providing reasons by Justice Kristen Walker of the Victorian Court of Appeal. The guide, and Some judgment writing essentials by the Hon Kim Hargrave, provide practical advice on structuring judgments and articulating clear reasons for decisions.

Other resources include style guides, judicial and academic commentary and recommended reading. These tools underscore judgment writing as a nuanced skill, highlighting the need for flexibility in adapting to case-specific circumstances, but offering broad principles that can make the task clearer and maybe even easier.
