The International Bar Association (IBA) has released a new report highlighting the social and economic contributions of the legal profession.

This comprehensive report presents evidence of the profession’s social impact through stories, its indirect economic influence via the rule of law, and a direct economic contribution measured at US$1.6 trillion, or 1.7% of the world’s GDP.

The report emphasises the influence of over 12 million lawyers worldwide, whose work affects the lives, health, and well-being of citizens globally. It also addresses the gap between the profession's impact and public perception, advocating for increased access to legal representation, stronger advocacy, education on the rule of law, and ethical stewardship.
